Alclad II 4oz Aluminum Lacquer ALC-4101 is your go-to choice for achieving stunning finishes on injection plastic kits. For optimal results, a primer is essential. Regular ALCLAD shares a strength comparable to lacquer and cellulose car paints; however, be cautious as injected polystyrene plastics may experience crazing when using ALCLAD directly.
To ensure a smooth application, use one of the following primers before applying Regular ALCLAD:
- Tamiya Plastic Primers – available in white or grey
- Auto Primer – also in white or grey
- Future/Klear – a floor sealer/polish
Lightly polish these primers with 1000/1200 wet & dry paper to create a glossy, less absorbent surface. For the best results, both ALCLAD High Shine Chrome and Polished Aluminium should be applied over a dark glossy base. Use Polished Aluminium over Tamiya TS-14 gloss black or gloss black auto paint, while Chrome should only be applied over gloss black model enamel paint.
When spraying, set the pressure between 15-20 PSI. Maintain a distance of 1.5 to 2.5 inches from the model and spray as if you’re using a paintbrush instead of an aerosol. Buffing isn’t necessary, but you can create tonal variations by polishing selected panels with micromesh. No sealer is required, and Regular ALCLAD can be masked and over-painted. While decal solutions work with Regular ALCLAD, they are not recommended for Chrome or Polished Aluminium finishes.
